Minnesota Electronic Security and Technology Association (MNESTA) membership is a seal of trustworthiness in the security industry.  MNESTA members are held to published standards of ethics and code, they are willing put themselves under peer review,  and they invest in educate so they know their industry.  Certainly much research should go into finding a good security dealer for your home or business, but a good starting point is finding a company that is a member of MNESTA.
