MNESTA Rules & Eligibility Requirements

  1. The student must be at least 15 years of age and not older than 20. He or she must be a graduating senior who will receive a diploma from an accredited high school, located within the state. He or she must be accepted for admission to an accredited college or university, matriculating the following year.
  2. Each eligible student must have either a father, mother or natural guardian who is a member of a police department, fire department or an ambulance service located in the State of Minnesota.
  3. Each student must submit a fully completed and signed application. Failure to follow instructions can result in disqualification.
  4. Students must submit proof of enrollment in high school via an official transcript (if transcripts cannot be provided, alternate means of proving enrollment will be accepted on an individual basis), proof of acceptance to a college or university (letter acceptable), and proof of parent's affiliation with the services listed above (ID or supervisory letter acceptable).

Writing Sample: Your 500-750 word essay will be graded on a scale of 1-40 by the State Scholarship Committee. It will be judged for its originality, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and your ability to express "How Your Father, Mother or Guardian Helps Us Protect Our Community."

The filing deadline for the scholarship program is:
June 1, 2012

Academic Prizes, etc: Each applicant will receive between 1 and 25 points for his or her participation in extracurricular activities - in and out of school - and hobbies, with emphasis on the student’s involvement in community affairs and activities which establish the applicant’s leadership abilities.

All decisions are final. All materials become property of the Minnesota Electronic Security & Technology Association.  Submission is permission to publish any and all essays. Applicants are encouraged to make copies.
